Register a baby

You should register your baby with a GP practice as soon as possible after birth.

Before you register

You may need information about your baby and the parent or guardian completing the registration.

  • baby’s full name
  • baby’s date of birth
  • baby’s NHS number, if you know it
  • parent or guardian details
  • home address and contact details
  • birth certificate or proof of parental responsibility, if requested

Your baby’s NHS number may be in their personal child health record, sometimes called the Red Book.

How to register your baby

Use the NHS GP registration service to start the registration.

If you are not sure which Willows Healthcare practice to choose, you can use our catchment checker or find your practice.

If your baby needs medical help

Contact your GP practice, use NHS 111, or call 999 in an emergency.

Child health and immunisations

After your baby is registered, the practice will be able to support routine child health care and immunisations.
