Out of hours: call 111 or use NHS 111 Online. If it is a life-threatening emergency, call 999.

Register without a fixed address

You can register with a GP practice even if you do not have a fixed address.

Who this page is for

This information may help if you are homeless, staying temporarily with someone, living in temporary accommodation, seeking asylum, a refugee, or do not have documents showing your address.

Registering without a fixed address

A GP practice can still register you if you do not have a fixed address. The practice may use a temporary address, a care-of address, or another suitable contact address.

If you do not have a phone number or email address, tell the practice the best way to contact you.

Proof of address or ID

You may be asked for documents if they are available, but you do not need proof of address or ID to start GP registration.

Not having documents should not stop you asking to register.

Check our catchment area

You can use our catchment area checker to see whether your current location or postcode appears to be within our usual catchment area.

If you do not have a postcode, contact a practice for advice.

How to register

You can start registration online, or contact the practice if you need help.

If you need medical help

If you need urgent medical help, use NHS 111. In an emergency, call 999.

Support with registration

If you need help with registration, please contact a practice. Staff can explain what information is needed and how to start.
